Quantitative Data about Fishery on the White and Barents Seas, from the 17th to the early 20th Century
Studies of historical documents from the collections of the northern monasteries and governmental bodies, local press archives and the scientific literature revealed data on the size of catches and fishing effort, which allowed reconstruction of the population dynamics of important commercial fishes of the Russian North such as Atlantic salmon, White Sea herring and Atlantic cod. Description and analysis of the quantitative data, most of which appear here for the first time in the scientific literature, are given in the general context of the history of marine fisheries of the Russian North spanning several centuries
